Through the Ministry of Public Works and Communications The Government of Guyana in partnership with the State of Kuwait, has awarded DIWI the commission for consultancy services to provide for a Feasibility Study and Design of extension of the East Coast Demerara ‘Four-Lane’ Highway from Better Hope to the village of Belfield.
The project seeks to improve the mobility and accessibility of the population via this extension which links the capital city, Georgetown, to numerous highly populated villages along the East Coast Demerara Public Road.
The consultancy services include the following components: Cost-benefit analysis for various alternatives, preparation of an Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and the final designs (inclusive of all design drawings and specifications) of the selected alternative. Preparation of a detailed plan of the potential project corridor under consideration of the alignment of the current roadway; all established boundaries for roadway and land reserves; profile of roadside drains and drainage canals passing through the roadway; overhead and buried utilities; private properties and ‘sensitive’ areas such as cemeteries etc. To collect data on current traffic composition and volumes, and make projections for future traffic growth. To conduct a drainage investigation. To conduct a detailed analysis of the existing pavement in terms of residual strength. To conduct detailed geotechnical analyses that are applicable to the design of widened road sections, and for the widening and/or new construction of bridges and culverts. To develop various design options for the project road, bridges, culverts, drains etc Preliminary costs shall be developed for each design option. To develop a portfolio of project alternatives based on various project alternatives. To prepare the final detailed designs, inclusive of but not limited to: - a description of the recommended works, - specifications for all aspects of the works, - final design drawings, a road safety audit of the existing four-lane (Camp Street to Better-Hope Village), - Bills of Quantities for all works etc.
